The Recovery Support Specialist engages clients in the activities of the Beacon Drop-In Center including individual and group activities with the goals of increasing active community involvement and building skills and abilities.  Provides individual skill building services around social communication, coping and problem solving, self-care, symptom self-management, and community integration.  Facilitates planned or unplanned milieu-based interventions intended to result in improving or maintaining the client’s ability to function in a variety of interpersonal situations.  Helps to educate staff and clients about the recovery model.  Correctly documents services provided using agency documentation system. 

 

The Recovery Support Specialist will offer and exemplify hope, support, and recovery-based services.  They will provide client-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed services to clients with severe mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse/addiction disorders utilizing a harm reduction approach. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide training to new employees about proper procedure in the Beacon.   
  • Continue education and trainings to strengthen services provided. 
  • Assist Team Leader with Beacon operations; i.e. inventory and management of supplies.  Regularly restock office, laundry/shower area, and café.  Coordinate assistance from other departments to address Beacon specific issues; i.e. Maintenance, Information Technology, etc.   
  • Ensure the completion of routine safety drills in accordance with organization policies, procedures, and COVID-19 guidelines 
  • Coordinate with School Field Supervisors as needed for student/Intern placement. 
  • Facilitate milieu-based interventions intended to result in improving or maintaining the client’s ability to function in a variety of interpersonal situations. 
  • Consult and partner with other departments for coordination of care for clients.  
  • Perform other related duties and/or projects as assigned. 
  • Shift Requirements will vary depending on needs and hour of the Beacon. 

Qualifications

  • Must self-identify as a past or present consumer of mental health and/or substance abuse services and willing to share their personal story of recovery with our clients.  
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) certification preferred 
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a variety of situations 
  • Interest in working with people with mental health and/or substance abuse diagnoses
