Typical services provided include case management, counseling/therapy, individual skills training, medication training, crisis intervention, linkage to community resources, advocacy, assessment, and treatment planning.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Accounting and Finance will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to execute the goals of the accounting and finance teams. He/she will be responsible for all activities related to the general ledger, balance sheet, cash flow forecasting, audits, etc.  The Assistant Director of Accounting and Finance will manage the accounting staff, and be accountable for their work performance and production.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to ensure the accounting and finance functions of the organization are operating at full efficiency and capacity.
  • Oversee the daily accounting activities required to maintain the general ledger. Maintain organized and detailed records and files to document all financial transactions.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information and reports to facilitate the decision-making process, and keep the CFO, Executive team, and Board of Directors informed about the agency’s financial performance.  
  • Supervise, direct, and review the work of the accounting staff (i.e. reconciliations, check runs, accounts receivable, accounts payable, clinical/grant billing, invoicing, payroll, aging of accounts, and fixed assets. Provide training and continued education to staff to strengthen services provided.  
  • Ensure and maintain adequate controls are in place for the finance/accounting departments; e.g. develop and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines. Create and implement improvements for accounting processes; allocation of costs and reporting of results by cost center/program.
  • Establish ownership of all balance sheet accounts, assign reconciliation responsibilities, review and enhance formats to support comprehensive workflows, and support year end audit reviews. Research and resolve open reconciliation items; adjust or correct entries as needed.  
  • Resolve complex accounting issues in collaboration with the CFO and external auditors. Coordinate and execute annual external audit reviews. Ensure accounting staff is prepared for financial audits. Communicate appropriate guidance to the accounting staff to ensure monthly close process is consistent with accounting practices.
  • Develop appropriate short-term/long-term cash flow forecasting tools to monitor payroll, accounts payable, debt requirements, etc. to ensure a safe level of cash is available, and that annual strategic goals are met.
  • Perform other related duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other closely related field required
  • Minimum of 4-8 years of experience in general accounting, monthly close process, financial statement preparation, budgeting, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Experience working with an automated financial management system (MIP / Sage general ledger experience helpful)
  • Experience in healthcare; mental health or non-profit environment is helpful to ensure rapid learning and engagement
  • Experience with Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement rules, helpful
  • Experience with Grant accounting and compliance reporting requirements, helpful
  • Prior management/supervisory experience is strongly preferred
